KUANTAN: Police have arrested seven people, including several foreigners, in connection with the theft of 2.5kg of jewellery worth over RM1.7mil from a shopping mall in a highland resort in Bentong, in August.

Pahang acting police chief Datuk Azry Akmar Ayob said police arrested all the suspects, aged between 25 and 64, in the Klang Valley and Penang between Aug 20 and Oct 3.

"The latest arrest involved an individual who was arrested at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport shortly after arriving in the country.

"The suspect is still under remand, while the other six have been released on police bail,” he said when contacted on Wednesday (Oct 7).

He said those arrested were believed to be linked to the main suspect, adding that police are investigating the case under Sections 395 and 397 of the Penal Code.

It was reported that 81 pieces of jewellery weighing 2.5kg and valued at over RM1.7mil were stolen by three men armed with axes and crowbars from a goldsmith at a mall at the highland resort on Aug 17. — Bernama
