Two slashed with sword in fight at Gua Musang rubber store

GUA MUSANG: Two men were injured after being slashed with a sword during a fight at a rubber store in RPT Kesedar Sungai Terah Tuesday (Oct 6).

Gua Musang OCPD Supt Sik Choon Foo said two men, aged 33 and 40 years old, sustained face and arm injuries in the 8.30pm incident.

Preliminary investigations found that the incident occurred while several individuals were trying to resolve a dispute about the dumping of broken mosaic pieces and damage to a CCTV camera in the store.

"A 27-year-old man is believed to have tried to draw a sword hidden behind his back. One of the victims moved to stop him, a scuffle ensued, and the suspect swung the sword," he said in a statement Wednesday (Oct 7).

Supt Sik said the first victim had an 18cm laceration on his left cheek, and the second a 5cm cut on his right arm. One of them is still being treated at the hospital.

He said the suspect attempted to flee but was successfully detained by members of the public before being handed over to the police.

Police also seized a sword in a wooden sheath and a knife to assist in the investigation.

"The case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons. A remand application will be made against the suspect," he said.

Supt Sik advised the public not to act aggressively or use weapons when resolving disputes, and to settle matters peacefully or lodge a report with the authorities instead. - Bernama
