Floods: Almost 45,000 people in Johor placed in relief centres on March 11


JOHOR BARU: The number of flood victims in Johor has increased to 44,937 people at 8am on Saturday (March 11) from 43,667 people at 8pm on Friday (March 10).

The state Disaster Management Committee said in a statement that there were 12,730 families placed at 172 temporary relief centres (PPS) in the five affected districts.

“The highest number of victims is at Batu Pahat, with 39,737 people followed by Muar (2,785), Tangkak (1,662), Segamat (706), and Mersing (47).

“While the PPS with the highest number of evacuees is at Sekolah Kebangsaan Seri Telok, Parit Yaani, with 1,338 people, and Dewan Perwira UTHM, Parit Raja, with 1,330 people, all in Batu Pahat,” it said in a statement.

Eight water level recording stations have warned of a dangerous river level in five rivers: Sungai Muar in Muar, Sungai Bekok, Sungai Sembrong, Sungai Simpang Kiri, and Sungai Senggarang in Batu Pahat.
