KUALA LUMPUR: The Road Transport Department’s (JPJ) app and website will soon feature new security updates, says the Transport Minister.
Anthony Loke said that road users looking to register for a digital road tax would soon have to input the unique code located behind their driving licence in addition to their IC number during registration.
He said that he has discussed this thoroughly with JPJ and the system update will likely roll out soon.
"This will improve the security of the system to prevent any possible cases of abuse or IC numbers already being registered during registration," said Loke to the press after the launch of the “Arts On The Move” initiative at Pasar Seni LRT station on Tuesday (Feb 14).
Loke said the new registration requirement would only apply to those that have yet to register through the JPJ app or website and that existing users would not be required to comply with the new requirements.
He added that the digitalisation of road tax would remain voluntary and there would be no mandate yet on forcing all road users to register into the system.
