JPJ officer killed during inspection on highway

SEREMBAN: A Road Transport Department (JPJ) personnel was killed, another seriously injured, while two lorry drivers suffered injuries in a three-vehicle accident on the North-South Expressway (NSE), near the Senawang exit.

Negri Sembilan police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Alzafny Ahmad said the 42-year-old JPJ officer suffered head injuries and died at the scene in the 10.30pm incident on Thursday.

He said the deceased’s 32-year-old colleague, who suffered severe injuries to his head and several parts of his body, is receiving treatment at Hospital Tuanku Ja’afar Seremban (HTJS).

“Initial investigations found that the two state JPJ personnel were inspecting a motoloader carrying a cabin load on the emergency lane when a lorry carrying dry food products came from behind.

“The lorry lost control and failed to avoid the vehicles, crashing into the rear of the JPJ car and the motoloader,” he said.

DCP Alzafny said the impact left the lorry driver and the motoloader driver, aged 44 and 48 respectively, with injuries to their legs and bodies, adding that both are receiving treatment at the HTJS Emergency Department.

He urged those with information to contact investigating officer Insp Syakinah Ahmad at 06-603 3394 or to go to the nearest police station.
