Not the end of the road for road tax runners albeit new sticker rule

CONFUSION over the recent road tax announcement prompted several customers to ask for refunds for road tax renewal bookings from runners, Kosmo! reported.

Many thought that road tax renewals were no longer necessary. Some customers also asked for discounts.

Runner Nadiyatul Husna Mustajab, 37, said at least five of her customers asked for refunds as soon as the announcement on road tax renewals went viral.

“Initially, I thought I had lost my job, but after listening to what the Transport Minister actually said, I explained to my customers that road tax stickers no longer need to be displayed on the windscreen, but the tax itself is still required,” she said.

Nadiyatul makes a profit of RM10 per booking and about RM4,000 a month, but she also has to pay her staff and for rental of her office.

She said she would have to lay off some of her runners.

“For now, I will wait and see how this is implemented. I hope the use of stickers is not scrapped completely as many are relying on that as a source of income,” she added.

Founder of CukaiJalan.com, Azharul Azri, 36, said industry players were waiting for answers from the ministry.

He said the business would be badly affected if the stickers were totally scrapped.

“At this juncture, we don’t have a problem, we still have a job to do,” he added.

> After a court ordered comedian Ali Puteh to pay his sister-in-law Siti Nor Hidayah Mohd Ali RM60,000 in damages for defaming her on social media, he said he would do so in instalments.

According to Harian Metro, Ali Puteh, whose real name is Syed Ali Mubarak Syed Mohd Ridzuan, said his lawyers have reached out to Siti Nor Hidayah’s lawyers to come to an agreement.

“My lawyer sent a letter on the matter to her lawyer, but they have yet to respond (on the instalment proposal),” he said.

He was commenting on Siti Nor Hidayah’s Instagram video where she had asked him to expedite the payment.

Siti Nor Hidayah is the widow of the late comedian Abam Bocey.

The Sessions Court on Feb 18, 2022, ordered Ali Puteh and three of his family members to pay Siti Nor Hidayah for defaming her on Instagram two years ago.
