RM21.1mil for Batang Kali slope reinforcement

KLANG: An additional allocation of RM21.1mil has been set aside for the reinforcement of slopes at the site of the Batang Kali landslide.

Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said this was after a comprehensive report regarding the deadly incident was presented to the state executive council.

He pointed out that the funds would be used for slope rehabilitation works as suggested by the Public Works Department.

He revealed that guidelines would also be drawn up on the running of commercial activity at such areas in the state.

“Guidelines pertaining to businesses and campsite activities will be jointly formulated by the state government and local authorities to upgrade the safety of the people participating in these outings,’’ Amirudin added in a statement.

On Dec 16, last year, a massive landslide occurred at the Father’s Organic Farm campsite, killing 31 people including children.

Meanwhile, Amirudin said the Ampang Municipal Council had issued vacate notices to the occupants of 15 houses in the vicinity of Phase 2 of Bukit Permai, where a separate landslide occurred.

“In view of this, work to strengthen the (soil) banks are being carried out while awaiting the full analysis report from the Hulu Langat district and land office,’’ he added.

On another matter, Amirudin also announced that the state government had allocated RM50mil for road paving and widening projects.
