Batang Kali landslide: Five SJKC Mun Choong teachers still missing

PETALING JAYA: Two teachers from SJKC Mun Choong have been found safe while five others are still missing, says the school parent-teacher association chairman U Chin Ong.

When met at the Sungai Buloh Hospital on Friday (Dec 16), U said the two teachers who were rescued had confirmed that the five were still missing.

"The two teachers said they were not able to contact the five other teachers who were also on the trip to Batang Kali.

"We couldn’t get any further information," he said.

After checking with the Selayang Hospital and the police station, U said he was told that there had been victims who were sent to the Sungai Buloh Hospital.

“I decided to come here and wait for more information,” he said.

Earlier, U said that the group of 23 people from the school, including children, were among the victims of the landslide that hit the Father's Organic Farm campsite at Batang Kali early Friday.

He said that the teachers, their friends and relatives organised the camping trip and had checked in at the campsite on Wednesday (Dec 14).

“They were supposed to check out and go home today (Friday).

"The holiday trip was in conjunction with the school holidays and it was not a school trip,” he added.

Meanwhile, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said the ministry is ready to help the victims' family with psychosocial and financial assistance.

But she didn’t give any details on the financial assistance.

She said based on the information gathered, only teachers and students from SJKC Mun Choong are involved.

She said this after meeting the victims' families at the Sungai Buloh Hospital.

She said due to procedure and SOP (standard operating procedure), the identity process is ongoing.
