Batang Kali landslide: SAR ops to continue in the next 24 hours, says Selangor Fire Dept chief

HULU SELANGOR: Search and Rescue (SAR) operations will continue in the next 24 hours, barring bad weather, says Datuk Norazam Khamis.

The Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director said more than 700 personnel from various agencies have been deployed following a landslide in Batang Kali.

"So far, the bodies of 19 victims have been discovered, and we are searching for 14 more victims.

"The SAR operations will be conducted for 24 hours, but if it rains, we will postpone it," he told reporters at the landslide site on Friday (Dec 16).

Among the challenges faced by rescuers are the victims' bodies being moved downwards from their original location due to the landslide, Norazam said.

"There is still some soil movement between 7am and 9am, but the situation is stable.

"On top of the rescue mission, officers are tasked with watching for any additional soil movement in the area," he said.
