Batang Kali landslide: Search focusing on two of three zones

HULU SELANGOR: A total of 231 rescue personnel are focusing on two of three campsites at Father's Organic Farm in the search and rescue operation following a landslide.

The camping site consists of three sectors – Sector A (Hilltop), Sector B (Farmview) and Sector C (Riverside).

Fire and Rescue Department director (fire and rescue operation) Datuk Nor Hisham Mohammad said for now, rescue teams are focusing on Sector A and B.

"Both sectors were the most devastated by the landslide.

"We believe most victims who have not been rescued are in these two sectors," he told reporters at the disaster area on Friday (Dec 16).

He added that more rescue personnel would be deployed in the search to ensure the safety of all of those involved.

Nor Hisham said 53 victims were initially rescued at 9am.

"It was followed by the discovery of seven injured victims before a campsite operator was safely rescued.

"As of 11.30am, the death toll was 11.

"Between 11.45am and 1pm, five more bodies were discovered, taking the death toll to 16," he said.
