Larry Sng: I am still PBM president

PETALING JAYA: Julau MP Larry Sng has denied having resigned as the Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) president

Refuting a recent report that his position has been replaced by Ampang MP Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin, Sng said due process needs to take place in order for a proper handing-over.

"Inaccurate reporting. What I said was it's my intention for Zuraida to take charge of PBM and a power transition will take place," said Sng.

He added that he will not resign as the party president if elections are speculated to be around the corner.

"Due process needs to take place in order for a proper handing-over to be done. Just to be clear, if elections are held before the transition is complete, I will still sign the watika (appointment letter) for candidates in GE15," he said in a statement.

The earlier report by a new portal had announced Zuraida as president of PBM after she received the unanimous support of delegates who attended the party’s inaugural general assembly.

PBM information chief Zakaria Abdul Hamid was reported saying that Selangor representative Jaafar Wahyu had proposed Zuraida, the party’s president-designate, to take over the number one position as PBM president.

Zakaria added that PBM will hold a meeting to discuss the position of Sng, and that there was a proposal to suggest PBM create three positions for deputy president.

Zuraida quit Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) on May 26 to join PBM.

In June, Sng announced Zuraida as PBM leader, which was unanimously adopted by members of the party’s political bureau and the supreme council.

She was given the mandate to lead the party’s delegation in meetings and negotiations with other party leaders, especially pertaining to discussions on forming political cooperation.
