Najib has till end of his 12-year imprisonment to pay RM210mil fine, say lawyers

KUALA LUMPUR: It is still unclear whether Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak (pic) has paid the RM210mil fine imposed on him in the SRC International Sdn Bhd case or will do so later.

Members of the legal fraternity referred to, however, were of the opinion that the 69-year-old former prime minister could pay the fine at any point of time during his 12-year jail period.

Lawyer Mohamed Haniff Khatri Abdulla said based on the principal of law, Najib could pay the fine whenever he wants, but if he did not pay by the time his 12-year term was scheduled to end, an additional five years would be added as per the Federal Court’s ruling.

Lawyer Lim Wei Jiet also concurred with the same view, saying that there was no time limit imposed by the Federal Court on the duration of the payment.
