Hospital Sultanah Aminah in Johor to undergo major upgrades says exco

JOHOR BARU: The main building of Hospital Sultanah Aminah would undergo a major upgrading project involving some RM140mil soon.

The project was approved by the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) under the third rolling plan of the 11th Malaysian Plan (11MP) on Oct 30, 2017, says state health and unity committee chairman Ling Tian Soon (pic).

"The scope of the project involved the upgrading of the main electrical source from 6.6 kilovolts to 33 kilovolts, upgrading of electrical system, mechanical system, fire prevention system, medical gas system, building automation system, information and communication technology (ICT) system, conservative and environment protection works as well as other related infrastructure upgrades.

"Contractors involved in the project have been appointed and we expect works to start around August this year," he said, adding that the project is expected to be completed in three years.

Ling said this to reporters after a meeting at Hospital Sultanah Aminah here on Wednesday (July 20).

"As we know, the hospital was hit by a fire back in 2016. We hope that the new upgrades would further improve the safety and conduciveness of the hospital.

"The contractors would be working closely with the hospital to ensure that operations could run as usual without interruptions while the project is being conducted," he said, adding that the project would be conducted phase by phase.
