Malaysian Bar Human Rights co-chairs summoned by police over Nagaenthran vigil

PETALING JAYA: Malaysian Bar Human Rights Committee co-chairs New Sin Yew and Yohendra Nadarajan have been called up by the police in relation to the candlelight vigil for Nagaenthran Dharmalingam.

In his Facebook post on Wednesday (April 27), New said that the police are investigating him over the vigil held in front of the Singapore High Commission in KL and Consulate-General in Johor Baru on April 26.

“I have been asked to provide my statement at IPD Dang Wangi next week. Yohendra Nadarajan has been called, too,” he said in his post.

Meanwhile, Yohendra also posted about being summoned by the police.

“Both Sin Yew and I, being the Co-chairs of the Bar Council Human Rights Committee, have been summoned by PDRM in relation to the Malaysian Bar's candlelight vigil last night at the Singapore High Commission to protest the execution of Nagaenthran Dharmalingam and Datchinamurthy Kataiah @malaysianbar,” he said in his social media post today.

Nagaenthran Dharmalingam was sentenced to death early this morning at Changi Prison, Singapore while Datchinamurthy, 36, is awaiting his death sentence on Friday (April 29).
