VTL-Air guidelines for Thailand, Cambodia to be announced within two days

JOHOR BARU: Guidelines for the Vaccinated Travel Lane Air (VTL-Air) for Malaysia-Thailand and Malaysia-Cambodia will be announced in the next two days, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

The Transport Minister said the VTL-Air would begin as soon as possible after his ministry had worked out the suitable number of flights and flight companies.

“The travel lane was discussed during Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob's visit to Thailand and Cambodia recently.

“As Transport Minister, I have also told the Cabinet about the Prime Minister’s visit and that both countries had agreed to implement the VTL.

“Discussions are currently ongoing by my officers and an announcement will be made in the next one or two days,” he said after witnessing the handover ceremony of the completed RM18mil SJKC Cheah Fah from Sunway City Iskandar Puteri to the state Education Department here on Friday (March 4).

Dr Wee said Thailand and Cambodia have also said that they will implement quarantine-free travel and entry into Malaysia, following the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore VTL-Air template.

He added that on Friday, Malaysia and Singapore issued a joint statement about starting the VTL-Air between Penang Airport and Singapore’s Changi Airport on March 16.

On Feb 25, Ismail Sabri, during his visit to Thailand, announced that Malaysia would be starting the VTL-Air initiative with Thailand in the near future.
