PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong has taken a swipe at DAP's Kampar MP Chong Zhemin for seeking to haul him before Parliament's Committee of Privileges again – this time over his speech during the Budget 2027 debate.
Dr Wee called it a "birthday present" from Chong that reached him through Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul.
"Chong, by all means, continue your relentless efforts to silence me. But do not forget that the people are watching your actions," he said in a Facebook post on Tuesday (Oct 20).
Dr Wee had turned 58 years old on Oct 20.
Referring to the DAP MP as "the Honourable YB in charge of Wee Ka Siong affairs", the Ayer Hitam MP said the latest move was over "baseless allegations".
He said the motion concerned his Oct 14 speech, in which he raised allegations that the Rural and Regional Development Minister had supposedly "sakau" (siphoned) RM2.1bil.
He said he questioned a statement issued in September by Treasury secretary-general Tan Sri Johan Mahmood Merican on the approved allocations and actual expenditure for rural road projects from 2022 to 2026.
"Every revision must be approved by the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) and the Finance Ministry.
"How could the minister have 'siphoned off' the funds without the Finance Ministry's approval?" he said.
Dr Wee said he would give his explanation and full cooperation to Johari.
He said it was the fourth time Chong had sought to refer him to the committee "for speaking up on issues concerning the welfare and interests of the people".
All the earlier attempts failed after Johari accepted his explanations, he added.
During the Oct 14 debate, Chong also accused Dr Wee of misleading the House with his statement that the ministry had received additional allocations.
He later gave Dr Wee 24 hours to retract it, saying the Hansard from 2023 to 2025 showed no supplementary budget had been allocated to the ministry.
Chong submitted the motion last week after Dr Wee refused to retract his statement within the 24-hour ultimatum.
