Man nabbed with 76 cartons of illicit cigarettes


The General Operations Force arrested a 25-year-old man along with 76 cartons of illicit cigarettes, worth RM2,683.60, with unpaid taxes amounting to RM11,323.40, in his car at Batu Pahat on Nov 10, 2021.

BATU PAHAT: The General Operations Force (GOF) arrested a 25-year-old man along with 76 cartons of illicit cigarettes in his car.

GOF Battalion 5 commanding officer Supt Dimin Awang said the arrest and seizure were made at Jalan Putera Indah 15/1, Taman Putera Indah here at around 3pm on Wednesday (Nov 10).

“We stopped the car and proceeded to check the vehicle and found the contraband items of various brands worth RM2,683.60, with unpaid taxes amounting to RM11,323.40.

“We suspect that he has been supplying the contraband cigarettes to sundry shops in the Batu Pahat area,” he said.

He added that the suspect was sent to the Batu Pahat police headquarters for further investigation under Section 135(1) of the Customs Act 1967.

Supt Dimin also urged the public to continue channelling information to the police to combat illegal activities such as the smuggling of contraband items and foreign migrants.
