Displeasure with sibling may have led to killing

KUALA TERENGGANU: Dissatisfaction with his elder brother, who allegedly frequently asked their parents for money, is believed to have led a mentally challenged man to attack and beat his brother to death in Bukit Payong.

Terengganu police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Khairi Khairudin said police received information about a fight at a family home in Kampung Banggol Tasekat about 10.55am on Saturday.

He said initial investigations found that the 43-year-old victim died after being allegedly beaten with a blunt object, while the suspect’s 36-year-old sister was also injured when she tried to stop the attack.

“The 42-year-old suspect, who is a person with a mental disability, was arrested by police by the roadside in Bandar Bukit Payong shortly after the incident.

“He was believed to be dissatisfied with his brother, who had a drug-related record and was alleged to have frequently asked the family for money,” he told a press conference at the Terengganu police headquarters yesterday, Bernama reported.

He said the suspect’s sister was receiving treatment at Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital.

DCP Mohd Khairi said the suspect had been remanded to facilitate investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
