IPOH: A 49-year-old woman has been charged at the Magistrate's Court here for murdering her elderly mother.
Chew Loong Thye was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code before Magistrate Norizan Riduan on Friday (Oct 2).
The accused, who was not represented, responded that she understood the charge after an interpreter read it to her in Cantonese.
No plea was recorded as murder cases fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
Chew is accused of murdering Ching Lai Kheng, 70, at a house in Lorong Kledang Utara 6, Taman Wang, Menglembu, at 7.15pm on Sunday (Sept 27).

It was reported that a 70-year-old woman was found dead, believed to have been stabbed by her daughter.
The victim, who was bedridden and required constant care, had just been brought home from an elder care centre in Pusing and was found with a stab wound to her chest.
The accused reportedly has a history of mental health treatment.
During Friday's proceedings, Magistrate Norizan asked the accused if she took psychiatric medication, but Chew could not give a definite answer.
The Magistrate then ordered the accused to be referred to a specialist for psychiatric evaluation under Section 342(3) of the Criminal Procedure Code.
This would determine if the accused is fit to stand on trial, the Magistrate added, before setting Nov 2 for the submission of the psychiatric report and relevant documents.
