Parti Sarawak Bersatu to stay independent, won't join Pakatan

KUCHING: Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) will not join Pakatan Harapan but remain an independent party without affiliation to any political alliance, says its president Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh (pic).

He said the party supported Pakatan leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's bid to become prime minister on the principle that the voters' wishes in the 14th General Election must be respected.

"Until the will of the people is changed through another election, PSB will continue to support the parties that were elected by the people in GE14.

"However, PSB will not enter into any alliance with any party as it intends to remain a fully independent multiracial Sarawak party that will fight for the rights and welfare of all Sarawakians regardless of race or religion," he said in a statement on Wednesday (Aug 25).

He was responding to calls by Pakatan politicians for Opposition lawmakers and parties to join it in an effort to unite the Opposition.

"PSB will not sacrifice its principles for political expediency, nor will it give flimsy excuses like supporting the losers for the sake of political stability.

"To PSB, that is simply trying to pull the wool over voters' eyes," he added.

PSB has two MPs - Sri Aman MP Datuk Masir Kujat and Selangau MP Baru Bian.
