Covid-19: 134 new deaths bring total fatalities to 8,859

PUTRAJAYA: Another 134 people in Malaysia have succumbed to Covid-19, says the Health Ministry on Friday (July 30).

In his daily Covid-19 updates, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the deaths involved 128 Malaysians and six foreign nationals.

Selangor reported the most number of death cases with 35 fatalities.

Melaka recorded 15 deaths, while Kedah and Perak had 12 cases each.

Kuala Lumpur had 10 fatalities, Sabah had six, Terengganu had five, Pahang had four, Kelantan had two while Penang had one.

About 114 of the casualties have some form of comorbidity.

Of the 134 deaths, nine have been reported as “brought-in-dead” cases.

Currently, 1,055 patients are in intensive care units, with 532 on ventilator support.

On Friday, Malaysia reported 16,840 new Covid-19 cases.

Dr Noor Hisham said 98.3% or 16,556 cases are those with mild or no symptoms.

The remaining 284 cases (1.7%) are those in Category 3, 4 and 5.

About 51% (8,590 cases) of the new cases are those traced from close contacts of patients.

Another 33% (5,683) are unlinked and sporadic cases, while 15% (2,550) are linked to clusters.

There are also 17 imported cases.

The country’s active cases have now gone up to an all time high of 183,706.
