KUCHING: Sarawak reported 718 new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday (June 15), the second straight day that its daily figure exceeded 700.
The state disaster management committee said Kuching had the most cases with 157, followed by Sibu (80) and Sri Aman (76).
Another 24 districts recorded from one to 57 cases each, taking the state's cumulative tally to 56,905.
Two deaths were also reported: a 75-year-old man at Sarikei Hospital; and a 61-year-old woman at Sibu Hospital.
Both had comorbidities such as hypertension, heart disease and dyslipidemia, the committee said in a statement on Tuesday.
The state's death toll now stands at 358.
The committee also said a new workplace cluster was identified in Kuching which involved workers of a seafood processing factory.
"The positive cases in the Jalan Daya cluster were detected among those staying at the workers' quarters at Jalan Daya, Kuching.
"A total of 153 individuals have been screened and 27 tested positive," the committee said.
Another workplace cluster, dubbed the Dulang cluster, was detected at an oil palm plantation in Suai, Subis, with 39 confirmed cases to date.
Three community clusters were detected at Kampung Muara Tebas in Kuching and two longhouses at Nanga Strass in Meradong and Nanga Sejugam in Julau.
The Kampung Muara Tebas cluster currently has 14 confirmed cases, while the Nanga Strass and Nanga Sejugam clusters have 29 and 64 cases respectively.
