KOTA KINABALU: Experimenting with cigarettes and other harmful substances must not be dismissed as harmless curiosity, warned Sabah Minister of Women, Health and People’s Wellbeing Datuk Julita Majungki.
Speaking at the launch of the Siswa Resilien: Bijak Memilih, Tegas Menolak programme at SMK Sikuati on Saturday (Oct 17), Julita said that drug prevention education must begin at the school level and be reinforced.
“Remember that one wrong decision can set back your future, but wise choices can open the way to success. Value yourselves, appreciate your families, and work towards a future you can be proud of,” she added.
The anti-drug event was jointly organised by the Sabah and Kudat divisions of the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) in collaboration with SMK Sikuati.
It was held in conjunction with the Program Sentuhan Kasih Rakyat, Karnival Jom Malaysia, Jualan Rahmah Madani, and the Perkhidmatan Komuniti Bergerak in Tanjung Kapor.
As part of the initiative to foster peer-led advocacy, students Hairul Kipli Budiman and Resse Tabitha Juining were named the school’s Anti-Drug Squad Icon and Junior Anti-Drug Squad Icon, respectively.
An educational signboard warning against the dangers of drug abuse was also installed on school grounds.
SMK Sikuati Principal Jukip Yuroy was among the dignitaries present at the event.
