Ismail Sabri: Two localities in Johor, Sarawak under EMCO from May 12-25

PUTRAJAYA: Two localities in Johor and Sarawak will be placed under the enhanced movement control order beginning May 12 following the emergence of Covid-19 cases there.

In Johor, the lockdown will be placed on Felda Kahang Timur, Kluang, where health authorities recorded 28 positive cases out of 65 swab tests carried out on the residents.

Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob (pic) said the enhanced MCO will also be placed on Kampung Bako Hilir in Kuching, Sarawak.

He said that 17 Covid-19 cases were reported at the locality after 62 screenings were carried out.

“Health authorities said there is a spike in the number of cases at both localities with high infectivity rates.

“After a risk assessment by multi agencies and following the advice of the Health Ministry, the government has agreed to place Felda Kahang Timur in Johor and Kampung Bako Hilir in Sarawak under enhanced MCO.

“The order will take effect for 14 days until May 25. This will allow authorities to impose measures to prevent further infection within the community, ” he said on Monday (May 10).

Ismail Sabri also announced the lifting of the EMCO placed on several localities.

The localities are Maahad Tahfiz Al-Azhari in Machang, Kelantan, Kampung Bangkahulu in Gemas, Negri Sembilan and PPR Baru 2 Lorong Habib Abdul Rahman and PPR Baru 8 Jalan Apas in Tawau Sabah.

The earlier lockdown enforced on Kompleks Abedon in Kinabatangan, Sabah and SMK Ulu Balingian in Sibu, Sarawak has also been lifted.
