PETALING JAYA: The Home Ministry will be calling up Malaysiakini and China Press to explain their recent reports of a statement by Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani about an alleged rape threat against a teenage girl.
"The Ministry views the matter of the inaccurate news pieces published on April 26 by Malaysiakini and China Press seriously.
"They will be summoned soon to give an explanation and other information pertaining to those reports," it said in a statement Tuesday (April 27).
Earlier Tuesday, Bukit Aman said it was not taking an alleged rape threat against a teenage girl lightly, and denied media reports that Acryl Sani was dismissive of her claims.
In the statement earlier, Inspector-General of Police corporate communications secretariat representative Supt Skandaguru Anandan claimed the two media agencies had inaccurately reported the statement made by Acryl Sani about the rape threat against the teenager.
The 17-year-old student on Friday (April 23) had alleged that a male teacher made jokes about rape during a physical and health education class at her school in Selangor.
She said the inappropriate remarks were made while students were discussing sexual harassment during the lesson.
After the classroom incident, the student allegedly complained to the school's counsellor.
Expressing his disappointment over the teachers' insensitivity, the girl's father had said he would lodge a police report as well as visit the school to meet with the management.
