PUTRAJAYA: More Covid-19 outbreaks at schools and education centres have emerged in the country, according to the Health Ministry.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said five out of eight new clusters on Friday (April 23) were linked to the education sector.

The five clusters are the Jalan Roban Lama cluster (Sarawak, 48 cases), Jalan Selirik cluster (Sarawak, 23 cases), Persiaran Sri Saujana cluster (Johor, eight cases), Mempaga Satu cluster (Pahang, 44 cases) and the Jalan Sungai Daun cluster (Penang, nine cases).

The Jalan Roban Lama cluster saw the discovery of 48 cases involving staff and students of a school in Saratok.

“The positive cases under this cluster were uncovered after a targeted screening exercise was conducted on 275 individuals linked to this cluster.

“So far, 48 confirmed cases have been found, ” he said in a statement.

There were also two clusters, which were classified as community outbreaks, while one other is a workplace cluster.

Dr Noor Hisham said the workplace cluster is linked to employees of a restaurant in Jalan Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur.

“Its index case had developed symptoms before testing positive for Covid-19 on April 20. To date, 16 individuals had to be screened, in which seven positive cases have been confirmed, ” said Dr Noor Hisham.

There are now 354 active clusters nationwide.
