Leaked audio clip is aimed at weakening Umno, says Nur Jazlan

PETALING JAYA: The leaked audio clip purportedly between Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is an attempt to break Umno, says Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed.

The Johor Umno deputy chief believed it was the work of certain parties to weaken Umno, with the ultimate objective being to deregister the party.

"Why are they still attacking our president when the Umno general assembly has already made clear our direction and political cooperation?

"I think this is just a move to weaken the party and a precursor to deregistering it in the future," he said when contacted on Thursday (April 8).

The audio clip that sounded like Ahmad Zahid and Anwar went viral on Wednesday (April 7).

Both leaders have denied having any conversation, claiming that the release of the recording was a political ploy.

Nur Jazlan said it would be a waste of time to discuss the clip as the party had made its decision on cooperation for the next general election.

The Umno general assembly on March 28 endorsed the decision for the party to withdraw support for the Perikatan Nasional government at any time if there are no indications of a general election in the near future.

It also reiterated its stance that any future cooperation with any political parties will only be made after the general election.
