Ku Li: Zahid not qualified to lead Umno if audio clip is genuine

PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is not qualified to remain as Umno president, if the audio clip of a conversation allegedly between him and Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was genuine, says Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah.

Sinar Harian quoted the Umno veteran as saying that Ahmad Zahid should be responsible, as party members have high hopes for him to lead the party well.

“I think it is not good for a leader to behave like that. He must be more responsible because people have hopes in him to lead better. He must not take that for granted. About the audio clip, I don’t know if it was him, but it sounded like his voice, ” said Tengku Razaleigh.

“If it was true and if he really had such intentions then he is being irresponsible and does not deserve to stay there, ” he added.

When asked about his recent meeting with Ahmad Zahid and Datuk Seri Najib Razak before the Umno general assembly, the Gua Musang MP said they came for some advice.

“He (Ahmad Zahid) and Najib met with me to ask if I agreed with the preparations done by both of them.

“I said, continue as usual because, during the Umno AGM, the delegates will usually follow the wishes of the leaders as long as we are sincere and honest with the members, ” he said.

“They will follow our wishes. So that was my advice, no specific agenda, ” added Tengku Razaleigh.

Ahmad Zahid had denied he was involved in the audio clip.

He said he had ordered his officer to lodge a police report so that investigations could be conducted to find out who was behind it.
