Anwar cries foul over 'ugly plan' using audio clip to attack Umno leadership

PETALING JAYA: The audio clip of a conversation allegedly between Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is the work of some quarters trying to fabricate slander aimed at bringing down Umno, says the PKR president.

“The spread of the audio clip is malicious and is the ugly plan of some people. It showed how desperate they are, to resort to fabricating slander, ” said Anwar in a tweet on Thursday (April 8).

Attached to Anwar’s tweet is a video of him delivering a speech related to the incident on Wednesday night.

“They want to use this to fight Umno. They want to use my so-called conversation with Datuk Seri Zahid for (Parti Pribumi) Bersatu (Malaysia) to attack the Umno leadership. This is not me, ” said Anwar in the video.

He added that he will instruct his officers to lodge a police report so that it can be investigated

The audio clip allegedly of two voices sounding like those of Ahmad Zahid's and Anwar's went viral on Wednesday (April 7).

Anwar added that such a tactic is not new and said that it must be faced maturely.

“It shows how desperate the leaders of this country are, looking for any tricks. “They have threatened, bought over people who took bribes. But they didn’t work so they spread lies, ” he said.

Anwar also said that there is an attempt to create more sophisticated slander so people in PKR, DAP and Parti Amanah Negara will raise questions.

“Thankfully, we are faithful partners and are not easily swayed by this kind of slander, ” he added.
