DAP's Perak rep denies joining MCA

IPOH: An assemblyman from DAP in Perak has denied that he is joining MCA.

Pokok Assam assemblyman Leow Thye Yih (pic) clarified that he did not have any intention of joining MCA, as speculated by certain news reports.

Leow said that he was still DAP's assemblyman for Pokok Assam, Taiping.

"Reports in several Chinese newspapers about me and 20 other DAP assemblymen and MPs joining another political party are inaccurate.

"I hope my explanation is clear, and this will put to rest the rumours," he said via a WhatsApp message.

Besides Leow, the reports also stated that Malim Nawar assemblyman Leong Cheok Keng would quit DAP to join MCA.

Leong, when contacted, replied: "Sorry, no comment."

During the recent Perak political crisis, both Leow and Leong were among those who had said that they were in the dark over a statement by the state party chairman Nga Kor Ming on DAP's willingness to work with Umno.

Leow had said at that time he would not support an Umno candidate as the new mentri besar, and that he joined DAP in 2009 because at that time, Barisan Nasional led by Umno had overthrown the then duly elected Pakatan Rakyat state government.

Leong had said he was unaware of Nga's comments until he read them in the media because no meeting had been called to seek the opinions of other DAP assemblymen.
