Perak PKR: We won't support motion of confidence vote

IPOH: Perak PKR will not back Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu as the Perak Mentri Besar in the upcoming motion of confidence vote.

Its vice-chairman Tan Kar Hing (pic) said they would not support the motion of confidence for the Chenderiang assemblyman, which is expected to be tabled at the state legislative meeting on Friday (Dec 4).

“While receiving our documents for the upcoming assembly, we were informed that a motion of confidence has been filed by an assemblyman to support Faizal.

“However, given our position as the Opposition, we will not support the motion,” he told reporters at the state party headquarters on Thursday (Dec 3).

On Monday (Nov 30), Perak Speaker Datuk Mohamad Zahir Abdul Khalid announced that Umno’s Pengkalan Baru assemblyman Datuk Abdul Manaf Hashim had submitted the motion to support Faizal, who is also Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia deputy president.

The motion is expected to be tabled after the tabling of the state budget.

Tan also said PKR would make several requests on the budget.

“Among them are to provide free face masks and hand sanitisers for schools and learning institutions, similar to what was done in Selangor.

“We are also hoping for programmes to empower women and to upgrade internet connectivity for educational purposes,” he said.

Separately, Tan said no discussion has been made on the Gerik by-election.

“The party supreme council will discuss first on whether we will be contesting," he said.

The incumbent MP Datuk Hasbullah Osman died due to a heart attack last month.

The by-election is set to take place on Jan 16.
