Modified CNY song to educate the public on coronavirus

BESIDES financial donations for those impacted by the coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan, some Chinese artistes are also using their creative talents to educate the public on prevention measures, Sin Chew Daily reported.

One latest attempt is a modified version of Gong Xi Gong Xi by singer G.E.M.

The original lyrics started with the line “on every street and pathway, on everyone’s lips, the first thing we say is, ‘gong xi gong xi’ (good wishes)”.

G.E.M, whose real name is Gloria Tang, changed it to “on every street and pathway, face masks must be worn, for others and for ourselves, we must carry out preventive measures, let us be brave. Wuhan we support you!”

The video was posted on TikTok.

> Chinese singer Hu Haiquan bought 160,000 pieces of face masks and asked air travellers heading back to China to bring them home, China Press reported.

Pictures of the 44-year-old singer seen with about 40 large boxes of face masks at an unnamed airport went viral, drawing praise from netizens.

“I am pleading with passengers for help to send these face masks back home.

“Delivering them by hand is much more efficient than going through ‘official channels’, ” he wrote on Weibo on Sunday.

It is understood that Hu had earlier managed to send 40 boxes containing 80,000 face masks back to China in the same way.
