KUALA LUMPUR: The Hospital Wanita Dan Kanak-Kanak Kuala Lumpur has been renamed to Hospital Tunku Azizah.
Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah said she felt honoured that the newly opened hospital was named after her.
"I am deeply touched, honoured and humbled," she said when opening the sprawling hospital in the heart of the city with the built-up area of 175,600 sq m.
The Tunku Azizah Hospital will serve as a National Referral Hospital and a centre of excellence offering specialised services in the field of obstetrics, gynaecology and paediatric.
Built on a 340ha plot of land in Kampung Baru, Kuala Lumpur, the new 11-floor hospital has been fully operational since August last year.
It is the first government hospital built under the private financing initiative in collaboration with UEM Group Bhd and Najcom Sdn Bhd.
The Queen also graced the Stem Cell Transplant Centre and the Reproductive Medical Centre at the hospital with her visit.
Tunku Azizah advised mothers to take care of their children's health.
"If a child is ill, don't wait one or two weeks before seeking treatment.
"As a person with difficulty to conceive, I take good care in ensuring that children are immunised from birth to school-going years.
"Ensuring the health of children is important for future generations," she said.
Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said the Tunku Azizah Hospital was among the new spacious hospitals built with modern facilities to offer comfort and better services.
"The importance of women and children in our society is something that cannot be disputed.
"Women and children deserve the best care because they are the backbone of a nation," he said.
Also present was Tunku Azizah Hospital director Dr Roniyuzam Abdul Malek.
