SEREMBAN: A 40-year-old man,believed to be the adopted child of an elderly couple,was charged at a Magistrate’s Court here with their murder in a case that has shocked the sleepy neighbourhood.
Tan Kian Ngip,who was detained a day after the killing of retired engineer Tan Kim Joo,73,and his wife,Ng Chong Hwa,67,in Nilai on July 24,was charged in two separate courts here.
His wife is accused with two others of helping him dispose of the knife used in the alleged crime.
Tan was charged before magistrate Mahyun Yusof with murdering Ng at her house in Taman Desa Melati,Nilai,at between 4pm and 7.45pm on July 24.
Tan,who is believed to be a stockbroker,is accused of having used a knife to stab Ng,a retired teacher.
No plea was recorded from the accused who was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
Tan was then taken to an adjacent courtroom before magistrate V. Vanita where he faced the charge of murdering Tan Kim Joo at the same place and time.
Mahyun and Vanita fixed Sept 10 for mention pending the post-mortem,forensic and chemist reports.
Tan’s wife Lim Boon Ee,35,was charged with Kek Ying Haur,41,and Huen Kok Chu,37,before Mahyun for helping him dispose of the knife used in the alleged crime.
All three,who were charged under Section 201 of the Penal Code read together with Section 34 of the same legislation,pleaded not guilty.
They were charged with committing the offence at between 7pm and 8.50pm at the same place on July 25 and now face up to seven years in jail and a fine. The court allowed the trio to be released on a RM8,000 bail in two sureties each.
On July 24,firemen responding to a fire alert,found the victims’ bodies with stab and slash wounds at separate locations in the house when they arrived to put out the blaze. The victims had been living there for 10 years.
