KUALA LUMPUR: Petron petrol stations are stepping up its fight against crime by putting up installation art to spread awareness of the Go To Safety Point (GTSP) safe zone initiative.
The GTSP, launched in 2013, is designed to act as “safe zones”, which are equipped with facilities to alert the cops to come to the petrol station.
The petrol stations act as a converging point for police patrol units, making them one of the safest places to be.
Petron retail business head Faridah Ali said the installation art was to ensure that the public were aware of the GTSP.
“We are starting with putting the installation art in 10 stations in the Klang Valley.
“We want to make it clear that if anyone faces any emergency, especially victims of crime, they can go to any Petron stations to seek help,” she told a press conference after the launch of the latest initiative yesterday.
“While the installation art is only at some Petron stations, GTSP is available at all of the company’s stations nationwide.
“Under GTSP, our petrol stations’ dealers and key personnel are trained by the police to provide initial assistance before the police arrive at the scene.
“They are trained to calm down the victim as well as know the necessary emergency numbers to call,” she added.
Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Zainuddin Yaacob hailed the latest initiative as timely.
“We need the help of every member of society to combat and prevent crime. This latest initiative is a move in the right direction,” he said.
