IPOH: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad should bertaubat (repent) and apologise to the people for causing chaos in the country, said Gopeng Umno division chief Datuk Hamzah Kassim.

He said the former prime minister was influenced by outside forces and had joined certain quarters to criticise Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

"Those that have retired, just retire. Don't cause trouble.

"Tun M is one Malay that memporak-perandakan (caused havoc to) Malaysia," said Hamzah at the Gopeng Umno division annual general meeting on Sunday.

He said the RM2.6bil "donation" to Najib came with three conditions.

"The first was that the donor must not be named.

"Secondly, the money must be put under the Prime Minister's name.

"The third condition was that there should not be any reciprocation," he added.

He said the money should not be questioned as it was merely a donation.

"Importantly, it's not the rakyat's money," Hamzah said.

Earlier, Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek said in his opening speech that a good leader should not only listen by ear, but to also listen to his heart.

"He must not plan for things that other people can do.

"He must also think differently from other leaders," Ahmad Shabery said, adding that Dr Mahathir was one such leader.

"If Tun M had listened to other people or the Opposition, we would not have the Penang bridge, the Petronas Twin Towers or the North-South Expressway," he added.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission said in a statement on Sunday that investigations concerning former 1MDB subsidiary, SRC international Sdn Bhd, and the RM2.6bil funds deposited into the Prime Minister's account was still on.
