Biker killed in freak accident, highway commotion causes another crash

KUALA LUMPUR: Two freak accidents that occurred within minutes of each other ended with one dead at Jalan Mahameru, near the Jalan Parlimen exit, early Tuesday.

The first accident occurred at midnight when a man, identified as Hoo Chiew Kee, is believed to have lost control of his Kawasaki Versys superbike, flinging the 60-year-old forward about 50m.

An eyewitness, an Iranian businessman who only wanted to be known as Mohsin, said Hoo was travelling behind him and his wife, when he noticed that his motorcycle was wobbling left and right.

"He passed ahead of us and lost control. I think he fell off his motorcycle. I stopped the car next to him.

"My wife went to check on him while I placed a warning triangle to alert oncoming vehicles as the man was on a highway, and the cars were really fast," he said.

Mohsin said the man was conscious for a few minutes and was breathing softly.

The accident drew a small crowd, some attempting to move Hoo from the road, while others helped warn oncoming vehicles of the hazard ahead.

Their efforts, however, were futile as another accident occurred in the very next lane near to Hoo's lifeless body.

A white Audi rear crashed into a white MyVi which slowed down to view the commotion.

The accident sent the crowd into a frenzy, with some running to safety.

A reporter who was present at the scene contacted traffic police and the ambulance which arrived 10 minutes after the incident.

Ngo was pronounced dead at the scene and was taken to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital while both drivers of the second accident escaped unharmed.
