Anwar urges public vigilance against defamation on social media, says Tunku Nashrul Abaidah

PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has reminded the public not to fall for slanderous statements posted on social media, including the recent one involving the azan (call to prayer) that was aimed at creating public unrest, says Tunku Nashrul Abaidah.

The Prime Minister's senior press secretary cited a recent example of an individual who had repeated an old, malicious, and slanderous narrative regarding the azan (call to prayer), adding that such a narrative would resurface during the election season.

"Such a culture must be stopped immediately to avoid any negative impact on the society and the country," said Tunku Nashrul during his daily briefing, which was broadcast live on the Facebook accounts of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the PMO on Monday (March 10).

He also urged the public not to be deceived by such slanderous postings, especially during the fasting month. He called on society to embrace a culture of critical thinking and reject any activities that divide the community through the spread of slander.
