RM1mil bund elevation to shield Kg Melayu Subang from flash floods

THE bund along Sungai Pelempas in Kampung Melayu Subang will be raised by up to one metre to prevent river water from spilling into neighbouring homes during heavy downpours.

Selangor infrastructure and agriculture committee chairman Datuk Izham Hashim said the emergency measure follows findings that the riverbanks can no longer handle high water flow, triggering recurrent overflows in low-lying sections.

"Work to raise the bunds by 0.5m to one metre will be carried out at several identified vulnerable spots,” Izham said.

He added that site inspections are complete, and state exco (MMKN) approval for a sub-RM1mil allocation will be sought swiftly to enable immediate construction.

"In Kampung Melayu Subang, I have reviewed the report and inspected the site firsthand. The overflow stems directly from low riverbanks, which we must now elevate along critical stretches," Izham said following the groundbreaking ceremony for the Selangor Water Management Board (LUAS) headquarters in Section 33, Shah Alam on Wednesday (Nov 4).

Kampung Melayu Subang was one of several areas in Selangor inundated with floodwaters following a downpour early this morning.
