KOLEJ Poly-Tech Mara (KPTM) Ipoh, Perak, has clinched entry into the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) for organising the “Most Places Of Worship In A Gotong-Royong Cleanup Programme”.
The six-hour initiative saw 975 students and 150 staff clean up 44 locations across Meru Raya, Chemor, Klebang, Manjoi, Tasek, and Jelapang.
The effort focused on residential neighbourhoods, mosques and surau, as well as recreational sites such as Kledang Saiong and Bulatan Sultan Azlan Shah.
MBOR representative Megat Faris Megat Muzaffar Shah said while this edition focused primarily on mosques and surau, MBOR hoped future attempts would expand to churches and temples to foster interfaith unity.
KPTM Ipoh director Anisa Mohd Yusoff said the programme aimed to strengthen ties following the college’s relocation to its new Meru Raya campus in 2023.
“Many locations were selected based on where our students live, allowing them to give back directly to their own communities,” she said, adding that the college hoped to expand future collaborations to local schools.
Ipoh City councillor Datuk Mazlan Abdul Rahman, representing the mayor, praised the initiative for aligning with environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles to build a sustainable city.
“Community service programmes like this prove that educational institutions are not only centres of knowledge but also catalysts for community development,” he said.
During the event, KPTM Ipoh also launched its “Community Bridge Website”, which allows residents to access volunteer activities, submit local suggestions and post free community advertisements.
