Ministry gathering input to amend Strata Management Act

Aiman Athirah: Act 757 being reviewed to meet current needs.

Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) is gathering input from various stakeholders as part of efforts to review Strata Management Act 2013 (Act 757) to meet the needs of the people.

Deputy Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Aiman Athirah Sabu said the move aimed to ensure the legislation remained relevant amid rapid development of the property industry and current requirements of high-rise residential building management.

“Act 757 requires comprehensive amendments to meet current demands following the drastic population increase and limited land space.

“We are reviewing it, and this conference will provide input to the National Housing Depart-ment and ministry on what else needs examination,” she said.

She was speaking at the launch of Strata Conference 2026: Towards First-Class Strata Management, organised by the Commissioner of Buildings (COB) office of Kuala Selangor Municipal Council (MPKS), as reported by Bernama.

The event in Shah Alam involved about 130 participants and industry experts from across the country.

Meanwhile, Aiman Athirah said the annual increase in strata housing projects showed that the strata community lifestyle was becoming an integral part of the nation’s development.

This required efficient management to ensure building sustainability and to preserve property value, she said.

“The strata management landscape for 2026 must align with the mandate of the Chief Secretary to the Government (Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar), which is ‘Accelerating Implementation, Intensifying Reform,’ through digitally based and responsive systems.”

“The reforms include a new standard operating procedure for strata management committee members’ allowances, which tackles inconsistent evaluation criteria and prevents the depletion of building maintenance funds,” Aiman Athirah added.
