A RM437mil proposal to widen a 3km stretch of Jalan Hulu Langat has been submitted under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) to ease congestion and improve connections to East Klang Valley Expressway (EKVE).
Selangor infrastructure and agriculture committee chairman Datuk Izham Hashim said the first phase would cover the stretch from the EKVE interchange to the Batu 14 junction.
The project, proposed under Rolling Plan Two of 13MP (2026-2030) would be implemented in stages in line with the Selangor Strategic Road and Highway Plan 2035 (Jalur 2035), he told the Selangor State Assembly at Bangunan Dewan Negeri Selangor in Shah Alam yesterday.
Jalan Hulu Langat, also known as Federal Route FT3210, was under the Federal Government’s jurisdiction through the Public Works Department (JKR), he said in reply to Datuk Johan Abd Aziz (BN-Dusun Tua), who asked about plans to widen the road amid worsening congestion.
“The opening of EKVE has helped considerably, but if connecting roads remain congested, it will not fully resolve the problem,” said Izham.
He said a RM320mil project to upgrade FT3210 from the Batu 9 junction to Jalan Datuk Alias junction had been completed.
The project involved widening the road from two to four lanes and constructing flyovers at several major junctions to increase traffic capacity.
Improvement works are also being carried out around the Batu 14 junction.
These include widening the left-turn slip lane from Jalan Ampang (state road B62) towards Jalan Industri Hulu Langat, at a cost of RM440,000.
Another RM536,000 was allocated to widen the left-turn slip lane from Jalan Sungai Tekali (B116) towards Jalan Industri Hulu Langat.
JKR had also required Scientex Park Sdn Bhd to upgrade FT3210 by adding a lane at the Jalan Sungai Tekali junction as part of conditions imposed on the developer, with work expected to be completed in 2028.
Speaking outside the assembly later, Johan noted that the developer was already marketing homes and building showhouses.
In a supplementary question, he had raised concerns over road safety and movement of heavy vehicles, as three fatal accidents had occurred over a week.
He noted that the road was only a single-lane carriageway in each direction.
He suggested imposing additional conditions on quarry operators and installing warning signs and speed breakers near schools.
Izham said the state viewed the safety concerns seriously and would assess additional measures at locations used by heavy vehicles.
