TTDI school field upgrade to be completed in July

The field at SMK Taman Tun Dr Ismail will be ready for use by July.

UPGRADING works at the SMK Taman Tun Dr Ismail field in Kuala Lumpur, which will benefit 1,300 students, are expected to be completed in July.

The RM200,000 project is being funded through the parliamentary allocation of Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh, who is also Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories).

During a visit to the school, Yeoh said its Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) had applied for the upgrade through her office in May last year.

“We subsequently submitted an application to the Kuala Lumpur Education Department.

“The application was approved and funds were disbursed into the PTA’s account last September.

“Upgrading works began in November,” she said, adding that the PTA also forked out RM30,000 of its own budget.

Yeoh said preliminary works were completed in March.

“The field is not yet ready for use because the contractor recently planted the grass.

“The grass requires three months’ maintenance before the field can be used,” she added.

Yeoh said the field had previously been in poor condition, with stagnant water accumulating in several areas.

“I hope the school will also be able to share this field with the surrounding community,” she said.

School principal Mohd Haizir Mohd Salleh thanked Yeoh for the upgrading initiative.

He said the school regularly opened its facilities, including the field, to local communities.

“Due to the high volume of usage, our facilities require continuous upgrading and maintenance,” he said.

“On weekdays, we also open the school hall for group activities such as qigong and tai chi.”
