TTDI school gets longer covered walkway

STUDENTS of SMK Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI) in Kuala Lumur now enjoy a safer, more comfortable waiting area, thanks to a newly built 100m covered walkway.

The school in Jalan Leong Yew Koh, with more than 1,000 students, had lacked a sheltered area to protect students and teachers from the sun and rain.

The initiative was spearheaded by Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh’s office after receiving feedback from parents regarding students being exposed to the elements while waiting for transportation after school.

Segambut Subzone 2 Federal Territory Residents Representative Council (MPPWP) chairman Farhan Abdul Rahman and deputy chairman Zafrullah Ismail, both parents of students at SMK TTDI, welcomed the increased shelter.

“The only covered part of the walkway was a short 20m stretch at the far end of the main entrance which had been there for about 15 years,” said Farhan.

“The school had been in need of a covered walkway for some time because this is where parents pick up their children.

“During the rainy season, students could be seen huddled together at the sheltered area.

“It also worsened traffic as parents crowded the sheltered pick-up area,” said Zafrullah.

“With the new walkway, students will be safer and more comfortable.”

The walkway, funded by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), began construction in June.

Yeoh’s political secretary Yap Yee Vonne said that requests for a walkway had been sent to DBKL repeatedly over the past four years.

“Thankfully, DBKL was able to allocate funds for the project this year.”
