Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) has penalised a contractor for failing to complete a public field upgrade on schedule in Kampung Teluk Nipah, Pulau Indah.

According to its media statement, MBDK had imposed a fine of RM39.51 for each day the project remained unfinished beyond its March 23 deadline.

MBDK said the contractor had previously been issued warnings on Jan 20 and March 5 following significant delays.

“Remaining works include constructing an access route for maintenance, as well as installing bollards and goal posts for the football field,” the statement added.

The delay drew sharp criticism from Pelabuhan Klang assemblyman Azmizam Zaman Huri during a recent site visit with MBDK personnel.

In a social media clip, a frustrated Azmizam noted that work began on Oct 21 last year and was originally slated for completion by Feb 20.

“I do not want to hear excuses. I want to hear when the upgrading project will be completed.

“If the contractor is unable to complete the project on time, they should not have agreed to take it.

“If they fail to deliver on time, they should be blacklisted from any future contracts,” he said.

Separately, Azmizam highlighted the crumbling state of Persiaran Sungai Pinang at Pulau Indah Industrial Park.

During an inspection of a particularly battered stretch intersected by a railway track, he said Klang Public Works Department (JKR) had stepped in to perform emergency maintenance.

Azmizam explained that while he had requested JKR’s urgent intervention due to the severe deterioration of the road, the long-term solution laid elsewhere.

“The matter is actually the responsibility of Railway Assets Corporation (RAC); the work by JKR is only meant as a temporary fix.

“I urge RAC to undertake comprehensive repairs immediately to ensure safety of motorists,” he said.

Klang JKR confirmed that the uneven surface was significantly hindering logistics, causing heavy vehicles to go extra slow and creating traffic jam.

“To ensure the comfort of motorists, we have patched the road as a temporary measure,” the department stated.

Azmizam has frequently advocated for better road conditions in his constituency during state assembly sittings.

When contacted, RAC said it would look into the matter.
