27,000 Rumah Idaman units in the pipeline in S'gor

MORE than 27,000 units of affordable housing are being planned under Selangor’s Rumah Idaman initiative, aimed at improving access to home ownership.

The figure excludes a further 14,000 units currently under construction across nine projects.

State housing and culture committee chairman Datuk Borhan Aman Shah said some 7,700 Rumah Idaman units had been completed as of March 2026.

These projects, he said, included Idaman Kajang 2, Idaman BSP, Idaman Bukit Jelutong, Idaman Melur, Idaman Taman Air Manis and Idaman Cahaya.

“This brings the total number of Rumah Idaman units, both completed and planned, to nearly 50,000,” he said at the state assembly sitting at Bangunan Dewan Negeri Selangor on Wednesday (April 29).

Borhan was responding to Azmizam Zaman Huri (PH-Pelabuhan Klang) who asked about the number of Rumah Idaman units that had been completed since 2023 and the state government’s initiatives to assist those unable to secure housing loans.

In response, Borhan said prospective house buyers could apply for the Smart Rental Scheme through the Selangor Housing and Property Board (LPHS).

“This is a rent-to-buy scheme that allows applicants to save towards purchasing a home,” he said.

Elaborating, he added that the state government was also working with the Credit Counselling and Debt Management Agency (AKPK) to provide financial counselling programmes for prospective buyers.

“AKPK will help them identify issues affecting their credit scores and strengthen their financial positions,” he said.
