SUPP members urged to unite for next election

Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) members from Dudong and Sibujaya must close ranks and prepare for the 13th state election, which is expected to be called in the second half of this year.

SUPP Dudong chairman Wong Ching Yong said current political developments suggested that Sarawak would head to the polls within months, while the 16th General Election (GE) could follow either this year or in 2027.

Wong calls on SUPP members to be committed to their roles.

He said machinery readiness and internal unity were important to ensure the party remained a formidable political force in the Dudong and Lanang constituencies.

“If we want to be a strong and respected force, we must unite.

“Dudong and Sibujaya branches are brothers and sisters.

“Therefore, all activities should be organised together under both names,” he said at a Chinese New Year dinner in Sibu.

Wong said the spirit of cooperation must be deepened to ensure party strategies were implemented systematically ahead of the election.

He also called on members to remain committed to their roles to maintain the party’s relevance within the state’s political landscape.

The event featured a karaoke competition and a celebration for the 84th birthday of SUPP Dudong advisor Datuk Dr Soon Choon Teck.

Among those present were SUPP Youth chief Kevin Lau, SUPP Sibujaya chairman Kapitan Kong Sing Ping, SUPP Nangka chairman Benson Chua and William Anut who is political secretary to Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg.
