AMPANG Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) outperformed its financial forecasts for 2025, recording a total revenue of RM184.8mil –an 8.07% increase over its initial projections.

Following this, the local authority has set a revised revenue target of RM185.8mil for the current year, said MPAJ deputy president Hasrolnizam Shaari.

He revealed that the local council had originally anticipated a collection of RM171mil for last year.

“Total expenditure in 2025 was RM167mil, resulting in a surplus of RM17.8mil,” he said during the official oath-taking ceremony for councillors appointed for the 2026-2027 term at Menara MPAJ.

“Factors that may have contributed to the increase include the increase in enforcement action and collection of outstanding assessment taxes,” he added.

The ceremony saw 22 of the 24 appointed councillors sworn into office, with the remaining two expected to take their oaths at a later date.

The new line-up consists of 16 reappointments and eight fresh faces, comprising 17 men and seven women.

Outlining MPAJ’s strategic priorities for 2026, Hasrolnizam emphasised a commitment to strengthening governance and organisational integrity.

He said the municipal council would focus on improved service delivery, digitalisation and greater transparency to better serve the public.

“MPAJ also aims to increase non-tax revenue, particularly by improving parking management through better enforcement, wider adoption of digital payments and better management of parking bays,” he added.

The local council’s agenda for the coming years includes a focus on resilient urban development, solid waste management and climate change adaptation.

Hasrolnizam also highlighted the importance of community well-being, promising improvements to public facilities and enhanced support for small and medium enterprises.

Speaking to StarMetro following the ceremony, several reappointed councillors identified the modernisation of infrastructure in ageing residential neighbourhoods as a primary concern.

Councillor Datuk Yap Wee Seng said upgrades in areas such as Kampung Baru Ampang and Kampung Melayu remained his top priority.

“To achieve this, we need to improve communication with residents to better understand and address their needs,” he said.

Concerns regarding the capacity of existing drainage systems were raised by Lee Wen Bin, who warned that many older areas were currently prone to flash floods during downpours.

“MPAJ has successfully upgraded several areas in the past, and similar work will continue in other locations,” he said, stressing the need for urgent attention to irrigation networks.

Meanwhile, Nur Sakinah Mohd Yusoff said she would focus on Kampung Pandan and Taman Bakti, where new MRT stations are slated for development.

“We need to make sure that the infrastructure in older neighbourhoods will be aligned with the progress brought by the new rail lines,” she said.
