DBKL to present 2026 budget at FT Ministerial Council meeting

KUALA Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) says it will release information on next year's budget shortly.

In a statement on Tuesday (Dec 23), DBKL said it would brief the Minister and Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories), together with 11 Kuala Lumpur MPs, on the budget at the Federal Territories Ministerial Council meeting to be held soon.

"The main focus of DBKL's 2026 budget encompasses aspects of flood mitigation, urban cleanliness, urban infrastructure improvements, including road paving, implementing sustainable business initiatives, as well as maintenance works for public housing and people's housing projects (PA/PPR) supervised by DBKL," it said.

The statement was in response to a StarMetro report "Silence over DBKL’s 2026 budget raises concerns" on Monday (Dec 22).

The report said that the delay in tabling the budget had raised concerns over transparency and accountability.

It was particularly puzzling given that DBKL held a town hall session in June to gather public feedback for the budget.

Civic groups and several Kuala Lumpur MPs described the delay as worrying, citing DBKL’s large budget and its direct impact on residents’ daily lives.

DBKL said that it remains committed to implementing the budget that had been drafted in a focused and impactful manner, to ensure the well-being and quality of life of people in Kuala Lumpur continue to be maintained.
