OVER a dozen tourism and business operators are set to showcase Penang’s diverse attractions during the upcoming Atap Visit Penang Carnival.
Organised by the Association of Tourism Attractions Penang (Atap) with the support of the Penang tourism and creative economy committee, the event will be held at Sunway Carnival Mall in Seberang Jaya, Seberang Perai, from Aug 6 to 9.
The four-day event, which is free for the public, serves as a platform for operators to promote their products and services directly to mainland residents.
Visitors can expect a range of promotions, travel packages, family-friendly activities, interactive workshops, contests and giveaways.
Exhibitors include Ghee Hiang, Entopia by Penang Butterfly Farm, The Habitat Penang Hill, The Top Penang, David Brown’s Restaurant, Areoma Boutique Spa, SEGi College Penang, Tropical Spice Garden and Sunway Medical Centre Penang.
Atap chairman Datuk Ch’ng Huck Theng said the event was conceived to raise awareness of the state’s tourism offerings.
“Penang has an incredible diversity of attractions, from nature and heritage to gastronomy, wellness, education and family experiences.
“Through this carnival, we want to create a platform where visitors can discover these experiences in a fun and accessible environment while encouraging more people to explore Penang,” he said.
State tourism and creative economy committee chairman Wong Hon Wai said the carnival was an excellent example of how the government and industry could work together to strengthen tourism promotion and engage local communities.
Wong praised Atap’s growth since its establishment in 2005, noting that its membership had expanded from six founding members to 60 today.
“The attractions represented by its members have also continuously introduced new elements, contributing to the vibrancy of Penang’s tourism industry.
“My office remains committed to promoting domestic tourism,” he said.
According to Wong, the recent school holidays injected renewed energy into Penang’s tourism sector, with hotel occupancy rates in the state remaining high.
